The Real People's Talent

Newham is apart of a spectrum of up coming new inspirational talent. Having written about the terrific places in Newham, I feel obliged to also mention the residents, the people who make Newham what it is. Newham has proved that you do not need to be a person of authority, great background or even wealth to become someone great. These youngsters have proved that just by being gifted, determined and proud of their East London heritage.
The Young Mayor of Newham, Joshua Adejokun, is accountable to young people in Newham. He meets regularly with the Mayor and Councillors, making sure the views and opinions of the younger members of the community are heard.
Watch him being elected here

Next I'd like to mention an extremley talented young man, Diân Gasper. Studying Contemporary Music, at Brunel University, Uxbridge, he is a young paid musician in his field of work. He performs at various venues, from The Royal Festival Hall, to places closer to home, Stratford Circus. He was born in Plaistow and bred in Beckton.
Here he plays the piano in his own unique way.

Last but not least, I'd like to write about a professional footballer who was born in the midst of Newham, Jermaine Defoe. Also born in Beckton, the 26 year old plays for Tottenham Hotspur and is living proof that there is hope for the rest of Newham, the youngsters who are determined to become something.
Watch him in action!!

STRATFORD, you can't believe its a hosting borough of The Olympic Games 2012 do I hear you exclaim? Well it is!

Having talked about most towns in Newham, I had left a certain one till the end, as I believe this is where changes are happening, big changes. This is where Newham will be marked in history forever, as Stratford is where the Olypmic stadium is being built. As a host Borough, Newham will see advantages which it was not liable to in past years, but that is about to change. So let me introduce to you Stratford, the future of Newham.
This is the current plan of the Olympic stadium, which is being built in Stratford. The commence of the structure started in May 2008, three months prior to its actual start date. The Olympics Games 2012 will be held here, bringing employment, more housing, tourists and general welfare to the borough. The innovative Olympic Stadium design allows for an 80,000 seat Athletics stadium to be converted into a more easily maintained 25,000 seat venue after the Games.
This is an image of what the final stadium is set to look like.

Here is a short video to remind you of all the great places the Olympics were held, and now that place is also marked on the map, London!

Having looked at the bright future, lets take a look at its present aswell. Straford is home to Stratford Shopping Centre, which is being expanded in to a little village of its own, again raising the prosperity of this borough.
This a bird's eye view of the new Stratford City, set to evolve around the next 15 years, watch this space!
Covering 73 hectares of largely derelict land, the next 15 years will see the creation of a new £4bn metropolitan centre in East London, with more than 100 shops, three big department stores, cafés, schools, hotels, parks and health centres. New urban districts will house an extra 11,000 residents and 30,000 workers. I believe that is astounding, don't you?

My Personal View...My side of the Story

I see Upton Park as a colourful and diverse place. It always has something going on. Green Street is the highlight of the area in which all aspects of life seem in conjunction with each other. Everyone knows each other. It has a sense of 'united we stand, divided we fall' atmosphere within the community. It is no doubt a great and strong place. West Ham Football Stadium is a sign of great things to come from Newham.

Mark Noble, a player on the team, is bred and born in Newham, Canning Town, and so is a symbol of the talent we have here amongst our borough's youngsters.

UPTON PARK, do you really need an introduction?

Yes UPTON PARK is home to its own West Ham United Football Club stadium. The roar of the fans and the intensity of the game keeps all supporters hanging at the edge their seats! This team have been running strong for over a century. The stadium can seat upto 36,000 spectators.
It is in Upton Park that the monument of the World Cup Winners proudly stands. A day to remember for every West Ham supporter to come, or those that have gone. Their home team players were the ones to score the winning goals making England victorious in 1966. Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Trevor Brooking stole the game.

I would not be doing Newham any justice if I did not mention one of its most multicultural and multicoloured streets at the heart of Upton Park, GREEN STREET. The shops and atmosphere speak for itself, famously known for the best Asian clothes shopping, flocks of people from all around the UK come to our little provance in search for their dream clothes. The area is buzzing from break of dawn till dusk and is a vibrant place to shop.

My Personal View...My Side Of The Story

Beckton was my home for eight long years. I have great memories there. I used to live on this road, Hallywell Crescent. It was a lovely big home, which most are in Beckton. At the time of my residence there, the crime spector was not such an issue, but now with time the crime there has increased saddeningly. The Asda which is located not far from where I lived, is where I still shop today, some habits die hard.

My Second Home...Beckton

Beckton is well known for being home to the peaceful and beautiful Beckton Park. Check how to get there in the quickest and easiest way. With it's lake in the middle, it's a perfect place to go just to get away from reality and sober up in a mini heaven! Enjoy..

Gallions Reach opened back in 2004 in Beckton, the biggest shopping complex in the area, helped bring in income for the many locals who were out of employment at that time. It boosted in sales
and has been the focal point of Beckton for some time.

Back2School with my next place of honour in Beckton...My secondary school, Kingsford Community School, situated in Kingsford Way. A Specialist Language college, it aspires children aged between 11-16 to learn different languages in a friendly and enjoyable environment! Oh how I miss the good old days!
Not leaving out where I learnt how to read and write, North Beckton Primary School, We All Belong, and certainly we all did. That school holds great respect in my eyes. This is the place where I met such beautiful and honest beings, some of whom are my friends till this day, and some teachers I will never forget. Thank You.

My Personal View...My side of the story

Having lived in East Ham for 3 years, I've never felt in any way that I was uncomfortable with my surroundings. Having moved from Beckton I was at one point worried that East Ham might not live up to my expectations, but I need not have worried, the residents of Newham are friendly no matter which part you live in. It is a great diversial place. Theres no place like home!

What's GOOD in NEWHAM

Newham is made up of many towns, East Ham, Beckton, Plaistow, Canning Town, Custom House, Upton Park, Forest Gate, Stratford, West Ham and Manor Park. Newham was estimated to have over 244,300 residents, a census found in 2001, and the popluation continues to thrive.

Now I'll be taking a quick glimpse at most towns that makes up Newham and together we'll see the benefits, the cons and discover what Newham is really about.

I am a resident of East Ham and so lets begin the journey there....EAST HAM, MY HOME MY LIFE!!!

EAST HAM...

East Ham is home to the well known Newham Town Hall, in which the Mayor of Newham and the Newham Council meet.

It is also home to Newham College, formerly known as East Ham College, where various courses are available for not only locals but people travelling from other boroughs.
Last but not least, the wonderous High Street, right at the heart of East Ham, where you can find the best bargains, I should know! Find it with the map enclosed.

Have you lived there all your life and know the pros and cons? Yet your still under the impression its not worth of the recognition it deserves?
